Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry
There are many techniques by which the appearance of your teeth can be improved. Crooked teeth can be straightened, gaps can be filled and the teeth can be made to appear whiter. Even old silver amalgam fillings can be replaced with newer more aesthetically acceptable materials. The following treatments are available to improve the appearance of your teeth: white fillings, teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns and orthodontics.

WHITE FILLINGS
We can remove silver (amalgam) fillings and replace them with white, tooth coloured fillings.

TEETH WHITENING
In just 1-hour, our chairside teeth whitening will give you brighter teeth, a new smile and increased confidence!

PORCELAIN VENEERS
These are very thin "fingernails" of porcelain which are glued to the surface of your teeth. They can be used to treat broken teeth, to mask mildly discoloured teeth and to correct minor imperfections in the position of your teeth.

Porcelain veneers are thin fingernails of porcelain, which bond or glue to the surface of the tooth.

Sometimes known as facings, veneers can be used to improve the appearance of teeth without the need for excessive tooth removal. The procedure usually involves 2 appointments -

  Appointment 1- Tooth preparation
0.5 - 1mm of tooth is removed from the surface and impressions are taken and sent to the laboratory. Temporary coverings can be placed.
Appointment 2 - Veneer cementation
The veneers are returned from the laboratory about two weeks later. After checking fit and appearance, the veneers are bonded to the tooth surface.

  Indications for veneers
Porcelain veneers are used to improve the appearance of teeth in various situations.

For example if there are unsightly gaps or spaces between the teeth, or teeth are stained and discoloured or have become worn.

Opposite is a case study of a patient treated with veneers because she simply had unsightly stained and discoloured teeth.

Before: This patient was extremely unhappy about the appearance of her teeth.
After: Porcelain veneers (or facings) placed onto the teeth.

Patient's Testimonial
At the beginning I was so ashamed of my teeth that I could not smile or talk to people because I was wondering what they were thinking about my black teeth. I hid away and people thought I was being very ignorant or bad mannered or miserable.

When the veneers were fitted I could not believe the difference. I can now smile and laugh and am not ashamed of my teeth, I am very proud of them. I really look after my teeth now and brush them regularly. I do not want to go back to what they were like before. I feel happier about myself and prettier than before. I now enjoy getting dressed up and putting makeup on whereas before I could not be bothered.

Thank you very much.
Patient's Mother
The veneers have made a great difference to her confidence. Before the treatment she would not smile, she bowed her head and would not talk to people and this of course affected her socially. She appeared sad most of the time.

Can I say that she beams when she smiles and it has had a great impact on her social life. She communicates with people instead of hiding away and it has improved her confidence and self esteem immensely.

PORCELAIN CROWNS

These cover a tooth more completely than veneers and are much stronger. They can be used to treat badly stained or discoloured teeth, badly broken teeth and greater positional imperfections.

To find the right treatment for you, a full evaluation of your desires from the treatment, X-rays of your teeth and a clinical examination need to be carried out by a dental surgeon. Following this a tailor made plan can be discussed with you before proceeding.

This case study shows how a vast improvement can be achieved within relatively few appointments by fitting porcelain crowns. It is normally a two-visit procedure, is relatively simple and the results can be spectacular.

Patient's Testimonial
I would like to thank you and your staff at Horbury Dental Care for the excellent treatment I have received from you. I was extremely impressed at the level of professionalism shown by everyone who works there. The improvements in my appearance certainly exceeded my expectations. I am delighted with the results and find my improved appearance has given me greater confidence.

ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
Gaps, overcrowding, crooked or rotated teeth can all be straightened using fixed appliances (braces). These may be used at any age - over 35% of patients treated with braces in America are over 18 and there is no upper age limit to this kind of treatment.
