FACIAL AESTHETICS & REJUVENATION TREATMENT
(using Botulinum Toxin (BTX and Dermal Fillers)

A Guide to Non-Surgical Facial Treatments

More and more people are now looking at having facial aesthetic treatment to obtain a more youthful appearance, as well as feeling better about themselves.

Here at Horbury Dental Care & Implant Clinic we want to help you achieve that aim!  Geeta can help to improve wrinkles around your forehead, soften crow’s feet at the side of your eyes and treat lines around your mouth using the latest products and techniques.  We use Azzalure® (Botulinum Toxin) which is administered practically pain-free.  After treatment you should start to see an improvement within 2 to 3 days, however the full effect usually takes approximately 3 weeks.  The benefits of treatment usually last between 3 and 4 months, but can vary depending on your individual response.  Your facial expression will become more relaxed and the overall result is very natural.

Geeta also offers Dermal Fillers for the face to combat the problem of ageing skin by using Restylane® for the face and lips.

As Geeta always wants to provide the best treatment for the patient, the first step is to arrange a Consultation appointment, whereby you can discuss how you would like to improve your appearance and all of the options available to you.  All of the necessary forms and full details of the cost will be given to you at this appointment before you make your appointment for treatment.

After Botox you can return to your normal day to day activities after treatment, which is a series of a few tiny injections.  No anaesthetic is required.  However, after the use of dermal fillers you may experience some bruising and may not want to return to work after this treatment.  Anaesthetic is used for dermal filler treatment.

PATIENT INFORMATION

Azzalure® (Botulinum Toxin)

  • Uses the toxin produced by the bacteria. The amount of toxin used is minimal and generally well tolerated in clinical trials. The toxin temporarily weakens the muscles responsible for developing facial expression lines caused by muscle activity. Static facial lines, e.g. those due to sun damage, will not usually respond to treatment with Botulinum Toxin, as they are not caused by muscle activity.
  • Is licensed for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe vertical lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) and is injected into the skin to reduce these lines. You are having these injections because the severity of your lines has had an important psychological impact on you.
  • Treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • After treatment with Azzalure® you should start to see an improvement within 2 to 3 days, however the full effect can take up to 30 days. The benefits of treatment usually last between 3 and 4 months, but can vary depending on your individual response.
  • The most common side effects of Azzalure® are headache and injection reactions e.g. redness, swelling, irritation, rash, itching, numbness, pain, discomfort, stinging, bruising and bleeding. Normally these reactions are mild to moderate, reversible and occur in the first week after treatment. There is also a small possibility of slight dropping of the eyelid or visual problems.
  • Very rarely, Botulinum Toxin may result in muscle weakness away from the site of injection.
  • If any symptoms last for more than one week or you are concerned about any symptoms you should report them to your practitioner as soon as possible. Seek urgent medical help if you have difficulties breathing, swallowing, speaking or if your face swells up (allergic reactions are very rare).
  • Azzalure® may cause temporary blurred vision or muscle weakness. If affected, you should not drive or use machinery.
  • Azzalure® contains a very small amount of albumin which comes from human blood. It is very unlikely that this could pass on an infection, but it cannot be entirely ruled out.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS BOTULINUM TOXIN?

Botulinum Toxin is a toxin produced by bacteria.  It blocks the release of acetylcholine, the substance responsible for transmitting electrical impulses that elicit muscle contraction.  In medicine, Botulinum Toxin is injected directly into hyperactive muscles.  It has been safely and effectively used for treatment of strabismus (cross-eye) and blepharospasm (lid spasm) since the early eighties.

HOW DOES BOTULINUM TOXIN WORK?

Hyperactivity of the facial expression muscles often results in the development of deep frown lines, forehead lines and/or crow’s feet.  Injecting Botulinum Toxin into the affected area temporarily paralyses the underlying muscles responsible for wrinkling, giving the face a more relaxed and pleasant appearance.  The wrinkles become smoother or disappear altogether.

WHEN AND HOW LONG DOES BOTULINUM TOXIN WORK?
  • The initial effects of treatment become visible within 48 to 72 hours.  The maximum effect is reached in approximately 3 weeks.
  • Your facial expression will become more relaxed but by no means mask-like.  The overall result is very natural.
  • The effect of treatment generally lasts for 3 to 4 months.  Re-treatment is then required.

Potential Adverse Effects (side effects)

Botulinum Toxin injection is generally a safe and effective treatment method.  Nevertheless, certain side effects can occur but, like the intended treatment effects, they are mostly reversible.

At this appointment, you will be informed about the potential side effects of Botulinum Toxin therapy, contra-indications to therapy, and potential drug interactions.

Potential Side Effects:
  • Bruising or swelling at the injection site
  • Headache.
  • Tiredness, pain in the arms and legs
  • Temporary drooping of the eyebrow or upper eyelid
  • Brief visual disturbances
  • Dryness of the eyes
  • Skin rash
  • Itching
  • Allergic reaction (very rare)
  • Dry mouth
  • Muscle atrophy

Contra-indications (Please ensure you inform the Doctor if you have any of the following)
  • Pregnancy
  • Breast-feeding
  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • Lambert-Eaton syndrome
  • Blood coagulation disorders

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug interactions can occur when Botulinum Toxin is used concomitantly with other medications.  Since these medications can alter the effects of Botulinum Toxin, you must ensure that your doctor is aware of any current medications you are taking, especially:

  • Aminoglycoside antibiotics
  • Anaesthetics
  • Muscle relaxants

RESTYLANE®

The better we look the better we feel

Maintaining the skin’s vitality becomes much more of a challenge as we grow older and health, toned skin, free from lines and imperfections is hard to achieve.

But thanks to Restylane we can take steps to make it easier, so our looks reflect the age we feel rather than the age we are.

Restylane for revitalised looks

Restylane is an injectable treatment that contains hyaluronic acid.

Youthful skin is rich in hyaluronic acid (HA):  a substance that binds water, hydrates the skin and promotes all-important softness and fullness.  But as we age, the HA in our skin gradually becomes less efficient and leads to loss of volume and the tell-tale signs of ageing.  When injected into the skin, Restylane effectively gives nature a helping hand.

Restylane gets to the heart of the problem of ageing skin

Restylane instantly boosts the skins hydration system and restores youthful volume by supporting the skin’s structure to delay the signs of ageing.  Restylane also encourages health, glowing skin; it stimulates the production of collagen and improves skin elasticity.  It lifts and smoothes away lines and restores your skin tone and youthful volume without loss of facial expression.

Restylane – tested, tried, trusted

The beauty of Restylane is that its safety and efficacy is clinically proven and this is what sets it apart from other injectable treatments, with over 10 million treatments worldwide and over 13 years of clinical excellence as testimony to its safety and quality.

Restylane is produced by a unique and patented process involving minimal chemical interference.  As a result the hyaluronic acid gel in Restylane closely resembles our own HA which means Restylane is safe and the treatment results are long lasting.

Whether you want to improve the condition and appearance of your skin, banish lines or simply refresh your looks, you can feel confident that Restylane is skin-friendly and safe:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can Restylane do for me?

Restylane helps to smooth lines around your mouth and creates pretty lips to their former glory, so with a treatment you’ll look more youthful and fresh faced for around a year.

How does Restylane Work?

Youthful skin is rich in hyaluronic acid (HA):  a substance that binds water, hydrates the skin and promotes all-important softness and fullness.  However, as we age our HA gradually becomes less efficient which leads to the loss of natural elasticity and youthful volume.

Restylane is Stabilized Non-Animal Hyaluronic Acid gel (NASHA).  When injected into the skin it gives Nature a helping hand.  Restylane boosts the skins hydration system, stimulates the production of collagen and restores youthful volume by supporting the skins structure to delay the signs of ageing and encourage the production of healthy, glowing skin.

IS RESTYLANE SAFE?

The beauty of Restylane is that its safety and efficacy is clinically problem and this is what sets it apart from other injectable treatments, with over 10 million treatments worldwide and over 13 years of clinical excellence as testimony to its safety and quality.

HOW IS RESTYLANE GEL MADE?

The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is produced by a unique and patented process involving minimal chemical interference.  As a result the hyaluronic acid gel in Restylane closely resembles our own HA which means that the risk of inflammatory reactions is minimised and treatment results are long lasting.  For more detailed information please visit www.restylane.co.uk

WHAT DOES RESTYLANE TREATMENT INVOLVE?

The Restylane gel is injected in tiny quantities using a fine needle.  It can be used to soften lines, add fullness and boost condition and tone.  The treatment benefits can be seen instantly and Restylane does not affect facial expression.  No skin test is required because Restylane does not contain any animal-derived ingredients.

Restylane and Restylane Perlane contain pain-reducing lidocaine for a comfortable treatment experience.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME WITH RESTYLANE?

You can expect slight redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and/or bruising following Restylane treatment.  This is the same as you might expect with any type of injection.  However, this is temporary and generally disappears after a few days.  With lip enhancement, it is wise to choose your treatment time with care since your lips may become swollen and appear slightly uneven for a few days.

HOW LONG DO THE EFFECTS OF RESTYLANE LAST?

One of the great advantages of Restylane is that the effects are long lasting, but not permanent.  You are always in control of your looks.  Recent clinical studies show that top-up treatments prolong duration to around 18 months.
Facial lines and facial shaping:  top-up treatment is usually needed after 6 to 12 months
Lip Enhancement:  top-up treatment is normally needed in about 6 months.
Top-up sessions are normally recommended around every 6 months.

HOW MUCH DOES A RESTYLANE TREATMENT COST?

During your pre-treatment consultation, you will discuss the cost of the treatment with your practitioner. You can also refer to our fee guide for guidance.
