Typical view of a patients
lower jaw after all teeth have been removed. Note
how little gum there is to support and retain a
denture and how the soft tissues bulges out under
the tongue. This makes the wearing of a conventional
denture extremely difficult. There are 3 main solutions
to stabilise dentures:
Ball and Socket Attachments If you suffer the pain, discomfort and embarrassment of
a loose denture then a relatively simple option is to place
2 implants, which carry ball attachments.
In the fitting surface of the denture, clips are positioned
which literally clip the denture into place, massively improving
denture retention and consequently comfort and self-f-confidence.
Before: Two implants
placed in the lower jaw carrying ball retainers.
During: Dentures made with sockets to lock the
denture onto the male component of the implant. The socket
is adjustable to give variable 'hold'.
After: Dentures 'clipped' into position - and a
patient who is delighted because he is now able to wear
a lower denture.
Patient's Testimonial
Having worn dentures for some 30 years,
I was no stranger to problems from ill fitting ones from
time to time due to changes which occur in the mouth.
I used to suffer from ulcers, particularly in the lower
jaw.
Some 18 months ago I decided to have implants in the lower
denture, after a preliminary examination and X-ray proved
favorable.
I opted for an injection rather than sedation for the
operation which was neither lengthy nor painful, and afterwards
the discomfort was no worse than after a tooth extraction.
Getting accustomed to the new dentures was far easier
than with previous ones and I suffered no discomfort.
The implants have been very successful for me. I can eat
without embarrassment or any pain and just wish I could
have had them years ago.
