IV sedation can be used here at Horbury Dental Care for our anxious patients undergoing dental treatment. While under IV sedation the patient will feel deeply relaxed but will still be able to understand and respond to requests from the dentist. The patient will be unaware of the dental procedure and this form of treatment is ideal for patients who wish to avoid the noise and vibration of our equipment.
IV sedation works by injecting the sedative directly into a vein, normally in your arm or the back of your hand. It is extremely safe when it is supervised by a specially trained dentist and has four main effects;
- It will reduce your anxiety and make you feel relaxed
- It will make you feel sleepy
- It will make you unaware of the procedure
- It will result in partial – or total loss of memory of the procedure.
Dr Kirsty Mercer is one of our sedationists at Horbury Dental Care. Kirsty has a special interest in treating nervous patients and always takes the time before any dental procedure to ensure that her patients are fully comfortable and calm.
