Fillings are needed for teeth that have tooth decay or teeth that may be cracked or broken.

What different materials can be used?

There are a number of filling materials that can be used but the two main materials are Dental Amalgam and Composite.

What is Dental Amalgam?

Dental amalgam – this is the traditional silver coloured filling we are all familiar with. Although there is mercury in dental amalgam, once it is combined with the other materials in the amalgam filling its chemical nature is changed rendering it harmless.

What is a Composite or White Filling?

Composite – composite is a natural looking alternative to amalgam. Composite fillings are usually a resin based material which presents as a tooth coloured putty. By carefully colour matching the composite putty with your own natural teeth, we can blend your filling so that no one notices it has ever been filled.
